The OS Creative Photography class is an up and coming class established this year and led by Pastor Krall. The class offers scholars a variety of opportunities to take photos that showcase their creative and unique ideas. They have taken a variety of photos ranging from food photography to action photography, and each and every one of their photos is exclusive to who they are as a photographer. Many of them even pursue photography outside of the school’s program, taking what they have learned from the class and applying it to their everyday life.
Scholars have been awaiting this class since it was first offered to choose from last summer. Andrew Sayavan discusses his elation at the class being offered with me, “I wanted to take this class to try something new and to benefit me since I am in Journalism. It also sounded really appealing to me, since the electives offered before didn’t really match what I wanted to do, which offered me a new experience,” said Sayavan (10).

Throughout the year, the class has taken portraits, nature photography, action shots, candid photos, food photography, product photography, etc. Recently, they had the chance to go to Ms. Krall’s 1st Grade class and take photos of her scholars. This was just one of many opportunities photography had to go around the school and take event photos. They also had the chance to take action shots near the high school lunch area. Juliana Ruiz talks about this and states, “I think my favorite one was the action photos. We took photos of Jayden and Jesse jumping off of tables and dunking and also doing back flips. These were my favorite ones to take because it was fun at the moment, and they were making funny faces. We had to capture the perfect angle, otherwise they were halfway off the screen,” said Ruiz (12).

Pastor Krall has been experimenting with this class, offering a variety of photos that can appeal to each and every scholars’ creative side. He has even been learning a little bit himself saying, “Teaching this class for the first time this year has taught me the individual creativity of each scholar and how to see things from a different perspective that I never thought of before,” said Krall. Many of the scholars have even been showcasing their creative side outside of the classroom. One of these scholars is Matthew Serrano. He has taken a range of photos, and I recently sat down with him and discussed his growing passion for Photography:
How long have you been taking photos for? –
“I have been taking photos for two years.”
What kind of jobs do you take outside of school for photography?–
“I take portraits for weddings, Sweet 16s, portraits, and maternity photos. I have also taken photos for school as well. ”
How has taking creative photography impacted how you take photos both in and out of school?–
“It has helped me have a new outlook on photography and it has helped me shape my creative side when taking pictures.”

Scholars in this class have agreed on the impact it has had on them. Jayden Keppel agrees with this point highlighting that, “This class taught me how to be more intentional when taking photos. It also taught me how to pay attention to detail and be precise with my shots,” said Keppel (11). The Creative Photography Program may be new, but it sure is impacting many scholars and how they capture the moment around them, one photo at a time.
