Every morning, the hum of activity in the school’s broadcast studio is a testament to the dedication and teamwork required to deliver the weekly news. The goal remains simple yet significant: to keep everyone informed about events and announcements that shape the week ahead. From the meticulous setup to the final edits, the process reflects the spirit of collaboration and the commitment to excellence that defines the team.

“The most important part of the news is making sure everything is prepared,” says Tristan Speciale, a 12th-grade scholar, the founder of the school’s broadcasting program, and the director who also handles post-production.
Tristan began the program with a vision to create something lasting. A platform where students could develop their communication and media skills while keeping the school community connected. What started as a small project has grown into a full-scale production that delivers polished, engaging weekly broadcasts to the entire school.
The day begins with the team arriving early to set up equipment, organize scripts, and ensure all technical elements are functioning smoothly. Cameras are adjusted, microphones tested, and lighting calibrated to create a professional atmosphere before filming begins.
The purpose of the broadcast extends beyond just reporting announcements. “It’s about bringing the school community together,” explains Mrs. Greaver-Oakes, the media teacher who oversees the production. Each week’s broadcast features a mix of updates on upcoming events, sports highlights, and feature stories celebrating the achievements of scholars and staff. “We want everyone to feel connected and in the loop,” Greaver adds.
As the live broadcast approaches, the studio fills with energy and focus. Each team member has a specific role to play in bringing the news to life.
This year, Ma’kayla Christian and Elisha Waisanen take the lead as the on-air reporters. Ma’kayla also serves as the team’s scriptwriter, crafting the words that keep the broadcast informative and engaging. “Writing for the news is about finding the right balance between clarity and creativity,” Ma’kayla explains. “It’s exciting to help shape how our stories are told.”

Elisha not only reports on camera but also works behind the scenes as the video editor, ensuring each broadcast looks clean, professional, and visually appealing. “Editing lets me bring everything together,” Elisha says. “It’s where all the teamwork and preparation really come to life.”
Tristan, as the founder and director, oversees every aspect of the production, from planning and filming to final post-production edits. “We’re always looking to improve, both creatively and technically,” he says. “Seeing how much the program has grown and how passionate everyone is about their roles makes me really proud.”
After each broadcast, the team gathers to review their performance and discuss ways to make the next episode even better. These reflections not only sharpen their skills but also strengthen their teamwork and pride in their work.
The school news is more than just a weekly routine; it’s a celebration of community spirit and a vital source of connection. “When we see scholars talking about what they saw on the news or getting excited about an upcoming event, it makes all the effort worth it,” Tristan shares. “Thanks to the team’s dedication and leadership, every scholar starts their week informed, inspired, and connected to their school.”
