Earlier today, October 31, 2025, our school was hosting a blood drive, held by our own National Honors Society. This was the 5th Annual blood drive, and scholars 16 and up were welcome to donate.

Donating blood can have serious impacts. Mrs. Downer, our academic advisor, donated blood previously and received a text. That her blood saved someone.
“I think One Blood affected me. When I actually received a text message stating that the blood that I had donated had actually just saved a life, it hit home. It made me realize that we are making a difference, because One Blood donation can save up to three people.” Downer said.
Scholars that participate have consistently had a positive experience. While giving blood may seem overwhelming and scary, the experience is known to be calm and gentle.
“It just feels like a little shot.” Shane Kitchen, 12th grade, said after being asked about his experience this past year.
The blood drive is not only an experience that helps locally, it helps people all around America.
“One Blood is an incredible organization. It’s huge, and able to get the kind of resources together to keep a ready blood supply for Florida, the whole state, and all of the east coast into the Carolinas.” Daniel Rowe, a worker from One Blood who helped our scholars today.
Overall, this blood drive gives back to our community, and gives our scholars and staff the opportunity to help our community.
